Most of the people in the companies that I work with are continuously fighting each other to implement the changes that they are looking to realize. Whether it is adopting agile practices (yes, decades after the manifesto, there are still companies out there), moving towards DevOps and continuous deployment or changing business models from transactional to continuous, everyone seems to be fighting the status quo like Don Quichotte fighting windmills. In my view this is because of the way we organize companies. The principles are still based on the military system where the army should be able to function even if significant parts of it were destroyed by the enemy. Hence, we are all cogs in a machine that is optimized for NOT changing. However, in a world where change is accelerating, we need to organize ourselves in ways that make it easy to incorporate change and not ulcer-inducing hard. How do we get there?
