Need for speed

Why is it that European car makers need 40 months to put a car on the road whereas the Chinese car makers can do it in 12? Why can SaaS companies run tens of thousands of A/B experiments per year to improve their offering whereas many traditional companies still have less than a handful of releases per year? Why are there autonomous vehicles on the road and in operation in the US, but not in Europe? The key factor, I believe, is that we are moving too slow. Everyone has gotten used to operating at a certain pace and entire systems are built up around it. We have a playbook that has served us well for decades and we all “know” that this is how we have to do it. But then others innovate and figure out how to accomplish the same output twice or ten times as fast. We have a need for speed. Going faster. Changing faster. Delivering faster. It’s the only way to stay competitive. What are you accelerating today?
