Traditionally, system and software platforms were used as a basis to build products of. Product development teams would take the platform assets and then customize these for their specific product and build product specific functionality on top. In the age of DevOps and continuous value delivery to customers, this no longer works as it would require keeping a team alive for every product in your portfolio to crank out bi-weekly updates. Instead, we need to move to a superset platform. A superset platform contains the superset of all functionality in the entire portfolio and each product simply is a configuration of the assets in the platform. So, stop doing platforms the unsustainable way and move to a superset platform!
