When things are pretty good, as they are in our Western World, we easily fall into the trap of not wanting anything to change. As I am getting a little less young every day and I can notice where my body is no longer like a 21 year old, I very much am in that camp at different times. However, as I wrote in earlier posts, change is the only constant and all the longing in the world for things to not change won’t help you. In my view, the entire European culture is currently in this place where we want to keep things as they are. That is why we have the strong anti-technology sentiment and heavy regulation approach across society. All this is intended to slow down the introduction of new technologies, new ways of working, new innovations, etc. And it’s working, but to our detriment. My challenge is that I am trying to embrace the changes that I can’t influence. As the swedes say, “gilla läget”. Of course, if I can influence or change, I will definitely put the work in. Hence all the time in the gym, the hours outdoors and my journaling and meditation. But we have to accept that many of the changes that come our way we have no control over whatsoever, so we might as well accept, embrace and engage. So, as a reflection for today: where are you resisting a change that you have no control over?
