There is a quote by Henry T. Ford along the lines of “if you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”. The point is that we align our behavior to what we think we can and cannot do. I notice this myself in the gym on a regular basis. I go into a set with the belief that I can only do 5 reps, but then it turns out that I can actually do 7. A colleague of mine believes that she can’t do sales, even if she has a track record of decades showing how she has managed to convince people around her to do what she is looking for. Especially in our Western world, we have virtually infinite opportunities and most of us are constraining ourselves by our beliefs as to what we can and cannot do. The result is of course that we keep doing what we have always done and consequently stop growing. So, my challenge to you today is: what is a belief in your life about what you can’t do that you deep down know is not accurate? And how will you prove to yourself that you can?
