The agile manifesto was published in 2001, 24 years ago. It offered a critically important alternative to CMMi which had put many software engineers and organizations in a process-centric straightjacket that was pretty awful and ineffective. However, more than two decades later, there are still organizations out there claiming to be adopting agile practices. I believe that several of the underlying principles of agile are still critically important such as short feedback cycles in development. However, agile never solved the relation to product management, systems engineering, architecture, testing and regulatory compliance, to name a few. Consequently, many companies adopted agile in name, but never in reality. Not because they were stupid or lazy, but because the paradigm simply doesn’t match their reality. So, my question to you: are you still trying to adopt agile? Or are you ready to go Radical?
