Last weekend, we had planned to hang out with friends on Saturday afternoon. Last minute they cancelled as one of them had gotten ill, so suddenly I had a whole afternoon that was unscheduled. The easy way is to simply decide to laze about and not do anything, but instead I managed to change the plans on a dime and got some high-priority shopping in (my first running vest!) and a pretty tiring rucking session. As I get less young, I feel this constant sense of urgency because of all the things I still want to do and experience before I get too old. When I was younger, I didn’t mind at all wasting a day, week or even an entire summer. I felt I was going to live forever, so why the rush? In the words of George Bernard Shaw, youth is wasted on the young! Interestingly, after an intense and tiring week, my natural tendency is to lie on the couch and watch something on my tablet. But I know from experience that the best way to regain energy is to do things that I enjoy and to simply move. Life is so short, I often feel, and wasting time is … a waste! So, as a daily reflection: where are you wasting time that you could bring to better use?
