How to make it real?

Last week I participated in a virtual kitchen table discussion with some other “middle-aged white men” where we shared our views on the state of the software-intensive systems industry in Europe. As you may guess from such a group, we were not impressed and quite concerned about the competitiveness of our industries as compared to other regions in the world. Each of us had ideas about what to do about it, but each of us struggled with making these real. I also joined a truly wonderful dinner party where, as is typical, the state of politics in Sweden was brought up, resulting in all of us expressing our concerns with the system going to hell in a handbasket. Again, all of us had (different) ideas on how to fix the system. When reflecting on it, I realized that I had fallen into the trap that the Stoics time and again warn us about: focus your energy on what you can control and leave the rest to the gods. So, as the reflection for today: where do you struggle with realizing some change that you deeply care about? If it is outside your scope of control, maybe you’re better off focusing on what you can control?
