Letting go of your identity

During a conference this week, I gave a talk on the impact of AI on the business of the attendees. Most of these were mechanical engineers who saw that the skill set that they built over the last decades had stopped being relevant. I encouraged them to take a Zen Buddhism beginner mindset and to use their innate skills to reinvent themselves and their role in their companies. This is what I feel I am in the midst of myself as several of the research topics that I have worked on for decades are no longer relevant or need to be fundamentally reinvented. The challenge is that we tend to identify quite strongly with our professional identity and letting go is hard. So, as today’s reflection: where are you unhealthily bound to part of your identity? And how will you let go?
