I think it was Jordan Petersson who has a rule of life that includes something akin to never passing a cat without petting it. Of course, this advice is not intended to force either you or any cats you happen to meet into unpleasant or unwanted situations. Instead, the idea is that rather than walking around with a clear goal and destination in mind, you should allow yourself to occasionally be distracted by something pleasurable for a few minutes. Like meeting a friendly cat during a walk and petting it. Or finding some ripe berries on a bush and enjoying the taste of these as you pick a few. Or reaching a point with a gorgeous view during a walk and stopping for a bit to take it in and enjoy it. We can’t change the past and we don’t know what the future will bring. All we have is now. Which is why, as the saying goes, it is called the present. And there are many ways to make the present a bit more pleasurable and nice. So, as a reflection, rather than running off to the next thing, allow yourself to be distracted periodically. Remember that this thing that you’re so focused on is not going to matter in a 100 years anyway.
