Know your why

As I am slowly recovering from an achilles injury that I have been struggling with for over a year, I am starting to look at longer races and events. Of course, I don’t just read, but also watch videos and listen to podcasts. One of the common themes is that you need to be clear on your why. When the man with the hammer hits during a marathon or even longer run, you need to be very clear on why you are doing this in the first place. It’s the only way that you’re going to be able to push through the pain and discomfort when the going gets tough. Of course, this is not just true for sporting events, but even more so for the rest of our lives. When things at work or at home don’t go as you want and it becomes really tough, stressful and difficult and it becomes unclear how to even move forward, you need to be clear on why you are in this job or relationship in the first place. Otherwise, you’ll just give up and walk away or slide into victim mode and abdicate responsibility for fixing things. So, as my daily reflection, what is your why?
