When is the right time for change?

I always admire people who, after having been in a senior leadership position, decide to step down voluntarily and to move on to something else. Rather than being forced out, they intentionally decide that either they need a change, the company needs a change or both. I notice that many, including myself, easily get stuck in a hamster wheel where we keep going year after year without too much reflection on whether we are still in the best place and giving our best to the organizations that we’re part of. The risk is that we grow stale and stay beyond our expiry date, to the detriment of ourselves and the organization as a whole. So, my challenge to myself and to you today is to reflect on when it is the right time for a change? The vacation is coming up and many of us will spend time reflecting and noodling on how to spend time going forward. In the end, the future is where we spend the rest of our lives. And to keep running in the same hamster wheel may not be the best solution.
