Our human nature is focused on more. We want bigger houses. We want more expensive cars. We want to be paid more. We want to grow the amount of funds in our investment accounts. We want more power. We want more fame. We want more parties. All these are of course part of the four false gods, i.e. wealth, power, fame and pleasure. These gods give us a false promise of fulfillment, but I think that everyone who has managed to acquire some modicum of success in any of these areas rapidly learns that “a lake is never full” to use a Dutch saying. The entrepreneur worth 100M€ doesn’t feel successful and secure and is certain that he would have a network of 1 billion €. Quite a bit of research shows that for every metric used to measure one of the false gods, most people when asked want at least 10% more. We are not so good at determining when we have enough. Even though we all know that happiness is desire - reality: desiring more than we have is the main source of unhappiness. So, my challenge to you and me today is: what is enough?
