Accelerating the adoption of digital — software, data and AI — technologies in industry and society.

The age of commoditization

Ever since the first humanoid picked up a rock to bash the skull of an animal (or fellow humanoid, for that matter), we have been using technology to augment or automate tasks. Since the enlightenment, we have seen a significant acceleration of this process with the industrial revolution, the computer revolution and so on. Now we are entering the age of AI which allows us to augment and automate tasks that were in the realm of humans since the beginning of humanity. Whether it’s writing, speaking, mathematics, coding or any other intellectual task, AI is proving that it can do many of the things that we earlier were doing ourselves. In many ways, we are entering the age of commoditization: that which was hard and difficult is becoming a commodity, in that it is plentiful, easy to access and cheap. This does NOT mean that humans are becoming commoditized. Only some tasks that we thought were uniquely human are. We are free to explore other areas as some or much of our time will be freed up by AI. And as we get more time to explore, I think we should spend a good portion of it on clarifying our purpose and the meaning of our lives.
