What if it’s not you?

One of the questions I walk around with is where my thoughts, ideas and intellectual breakthroughs come from. Many times, I have walked around with a question in my head for days without coming up with an answer until, suddenly, I experience a breakthrough and things become obvious and clear. I think many have experienced this. The question is where that came from. Western society, being focused on the individual, claims that this is us. That it happens inside of us and that ideas come out of our subconsciousness. However, there is another view: imagine that we are more like radio receivers and that our thoughts and ideas come from us tuning to the right frequency? That us walking around with a question in our head is simply opening ourselves to the universe, quieting ourselves down and waiting for the universe to “use” us to bring new things into the world. That rather than me being the director of the orchestra of my life, I am one of the musicians in a much larger orchestra and I am the one being directed? What if it’s not you?
