From time to time, I go rucking for a few hours. Rucking simply is putting a heavy backpack on your back (about 25 kg in my case), find some, preferably hilly, nature (Sandsjöbacka for me) and simply walk for a few hours. I have tried to get the people in my local gym to join me, but so far the success is proving to be evasive. And yet, after a few hours climbing and descending and covering quite a bit of ground, I come home with a tired body and a refreshed mind. I used to use long runs for this purpose, but I’ve noticed that rucking is much less injury prone. The point, however, is that the body is built to move and that the head feels much, much better when you have spent some time seriously tiring yourself out. It can’t be just a walk. It has to be something where your entire focus is on the thing that you’re doing without space for your mind to go off on its own. Although we hate suffering in our modern world full of creature comforts, there is meaning in struggling and pushing ourselves to our limits. If nothing else, it cleanses the soul. So, my call to action for today: go rucking!
