Plan for the worst

There is a saying in the English language: Hope for the best, plan for the worst. In many ways, I am always surprised at the total lack of preparation of many. Losing a job totally disrupts people’s lives as if the likelihood of that happening is viewed as non-existent. Having a major health scare is treated in the same way. Losing someone close and dear to you: same thing. However, these things do happen. And we need to be ready for them to be able to stand strong when they do. To be the person that others can rely on when the unfortunate happens. So, make sure to have your financial life in order. Work on your health to minimize the risk of something happening bad to you. Tell the people close to you that you love them often. Use the Stoic principle of premeditatio malorum, imagine the bad things happening and how you would respond. And, finally, feel and express gratitude every day that nothing bad did happen that day.
