I have a confession to make: I spend too much time on YouTube. Especially watching summary videos where a creator shows a 15 minute summary of, say, a year long construction project. There is something incredibly satisfying about something going up in no-time. Taking shape faster than the eye can follow. Glossing over all the challenges, uncertainties and fears. None of that and none of the boring stuff in between all the highlights. All of the results and none of the struggle. Of course, we find that everywhere. Diets that turn your body into the 6-pack toting model in 3 weeks. Training programs that promise you to gain muscle like Arnold on speed. Meditation practices promising enlightenment in a few measly months. None of this is of course anywhere close to reality. In real life, there is the struggle, there is the process and achieving the actual result is a microscopic moment in an ocean of time. There is nothing wrong with longing for the result, but you better like the process as that’s where you’re spending all your time.
