reflection

One day it’s you …

As I write this, I just learned about the passing of someone who I worked with for many years, close to two decades actually, and who I considered a friend. One part of me is sad for him and his family. Another part of me reflects about my own mortality. He was only a few years older than me. We all know we’re going to die, but most of the time it’s some abstract, far in the future kind of thing that we don’t need to worry about right now. The risk is that we don’t value our time and fall into a rut where we repeat the same tasks over and over again in a job where we don’t really grow anymore. In the end, we can’t control when we die, but we can control, at least to a larger extent, how we use the time that we have available for ourselves. So, as a reminder to myself and you: am I spending my time on the most important things? What do I want to accomplish before it’s my time to go?
