Culture eats strategy for breakfast, Peter Drucker said many years ago. And then some thinkers added that it eats strategy for lunch and dinner as well. Unless you have prepared your organization with the right cultural enablers, your strategy will fall flat and never become realized. According to Schein’s model, culture consists of artifacts, espoused values and underlying beliefs. Of these, the underlying beliefs are the hardest to address and require the longest to move. Of course, this is also true for us as individuals. Lots of psychology research shows that our beliefs frame our perception and cause us to notice things we are primed for and ignore the 99% that we are exposed to but we never become consciously aware of. So, what are your underlying beliefs and how are these hampering you in what you are looking to accomplish?
