Currently, I am in the midst of training shooting for my Swedish hunting license. As I am far from a natural talent, I have the kindest, most patient instructor who keeps telling me how to do it: get ready, take aim, fire. The interesting thing is, however, that when shooting with a shotgun, this has to happen really fast and the aiming part needs to be instinctive and not a conscious, deliberate “aiming for the target” process. There is a beautiful parallel to the rest of our life: I meet lots of people that, once I get to know them a bit, express a desire to try other things out, to change jobs, to start a company or make changes in their personal lives. Most never do in that they get ready, take aim, but never pull the trigger. And it’s not like I am not as guilty of that as the next person. The general advice in these situations is ready, fire, aim. Take some action in what is roughly the right direction and course correct once you are in motion. Stop aiming. Start shooting.
