Accelerating the adoption of digital — software, data and AI — technologies in industry and society.

AI is not taking your job, or?

This morning I read about an experiment by researchers from CMU where they had created a software company entirely consisting of AI agents. The results were laughably bad with most agents succeeding to complete somewhere between 10% to 25% and at quite high compute cost. So, AI will not take your job any time soon. But someone using AI may take your job, or? Well, also there the jury is still out according to several writers on LinkedIn and Substack. The challenge in my view is not that your job can easily be automated. It is that the system in which your job was created in the first place will be replaced by a new one. One that is fundamentally different and driven by an AI-first mindset. In the interview study that I am in the midst of, we see that most people focus on the tasks of individuals and very few focus on redesigning business processes or entire companies from the ground up. As an analogy, loading and unloading ships was a heavy, labor intensive and time consuming job before the shipping container was introduced. The innovation of the shipping container fundamentally changed shipping, lowered cost, increased speed and radically reduced human labor. What we need is the shipping container equivalent in AI. We need a new frame of reference!
