Virtually everything that happens in the world is outside our control. Even for most that happens in our own lives, we have very, very little control over events. Most suffering in the world is caused by us trying to control events over which we have no control and by avoiding to take action for things that we can actually influence or control. It can easily become a victim mentality where we spend most of our energy and focus on things we can’t control. This is why I try to adhere to Stoicism and Buddhism. The former stresses to put our energy on things we can control whereas Buddhism helps us accept the things we can’t control. So, take a minute to reflect on what you can control and what you can’t and then spend your time, energy and focus accordingly.
