Management guru Peter Drucker famously said: “What gets measured gets done”. That works like a charm in companies as the gap between the desired state and current state is obvious and everyone is continuously exposed to it. Every company sets financial goals that are tracked continuously and when the company is not on track, immediate action is taken. For us as humans, of course the same is true: that what we measure will get done. Or at least has a significantly higher likelihood of getting done. And research shows that if you quantify your goals and write these down, you are much more likely to achieve your goals. Whether it’s your weight, net worth, spending patterns, workouts, book reading, meditation or anything else that matters in your life, quantify your goals and track periodically.
